IN MEMORIAM
Morton (“Mort”) Olshan 1925-2025
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Morton Olshan, our Founder, a visionary in the real estate community, and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and philanthropist.
In 1967, Mort founded Mall Properties (d/b/a Olshan Properties) marking the beginning of an incredible 60-year career during which he built one of the largest privately owned, diversified real estate portfolios in the country.
One of Mort’s proudest achievements was leading the rehabilitation of Parkchester, a 171-building, 12,000 residential unit community in the Bronx. His commitment to preserving affordable housing ensured that it would remain a vibrant, diverse community for generations to come.
In 2000, Mort became a principal owner of YankeeNets LLC and served on the Board of Directors of the New York Yankees.
Beyond his vast business achievements, Mort was deeply committed to charitable endeavors. He received the Municipal Art Society Award for his role in converting the historic B. Altman building on Fifth Avenue into a nonprofit education and research facility. He was a Trustee Emeritus of the Horace Mann School, a board member of the New York Urban Coalition and the Community Preservation Corporation, represented the New York City Comptroller’s Office on the Board of Trustees of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and served as a member of The President’s Council of the New York Public Library. His dedication to civic and social service organizations underscored his lifelong commitment to community enrichment. In recognition of his philanthropy, Mort was named a Living Landmark by the New York Landmarks Conservancy in 2021.
He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and the countless individuals whose lives he touched through his work and generosity.
